Salary: Based on experience.

Position Status: Full-time.

Hours of Operation: The hours will be set by the Director of Nursing; does include evenings and weekends as necessary as well as on-call rotation.

Job Summary: The Infection Preventionist primary function is to assist the Director of Nursing implementing and reviewing the facilities Infection Prevention Program, providing education to staff and residents with regards to this program. In addition, this position, is responsible for implementing quality assessment and assurance policies. 

Infection Preventionist Essential Functions / Duties:

  • Implement and review facilities Infection Prevention Program to ensure compliance with regulatory organizations and related reporting.
  • Coordinate with other department managers and staff to educate and provide resource information for them in regard to infection control procedures.
  • Systematically collect and analyze healthcare-associated infection data to identify trends and risk factors and communicate these trends to the Director of Nursing and Medical Director. 
  • Ensure the principles of Antibiotic Stewardship and consistently adn appropriately educated and followed including education and practice local practitioners and physician extenders, facility staff member, residents, and family members. 
  • Develops and updates Blood-borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Conducts outbreak investigations which includes knowing and what constitutes an outbreak.
  • Assists with supervision of clinical staff along with the ADON. 

Education and Experiences: Prior experience in a similar working environment is preferred, but not a requirement of the position. This position requires an RN (Registered Nurse) in the state of Kansas. Infection Preventionist certificate preferred.

Infection Preventionist Abilities: The successful candidate will have a poised, professional demeanor, and a positive attitude. They will be resourceful and have the ability to take the initiative in a changing workplace and adapt to varying requirements and needs. Specific abilities include:

  • Ability to understand, observe, and enforce infection control proce­dures related to facility services.
  • Ability to observe all facility safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and enforce the Exposure Control Plan as this position risks occupational exposure to Blood-borne patho­gens and other infectious material as an essential function of the job.

Physical and Other Requirements:  Primarily this position works in an office as well as residents' rooms and is subject to lifting, transporting, and supporting residents. In addition, this position interacts with residents, family members, staff, etc., under all conditions and circumstances and must be constantly alert for resident safety. This position is also subject to exposure to infectious diseases, conditions, etc., including the Hepatitis B viruses.
