Hours: M-F 9:00am-5:30pm and Occasional evening or weekends

Job Summary: The Activity Support Staff’s primary function is to assist the Activity Director with the service and delivery of resident activity program. In addition, this position will assist each resident with life enrichment opportunities and encourage each resident to be as independent as possible while pursing life goals and activities of choice.

Essential Functions / Duties:

  • Motivate residents to participate in the life of the community by assessing their activity interests and encouraging them to get involved; use a variety of instructional materials, activities, and approaches appropriate to the needs of individual residents.
  • Assist the Activity Director in the development of activities which facilitates positive behavior and learning for residents, staff, families, and volunteers.
  • Support the individual needs of residents upon request to offer reassurance and/or satisfaction; assist residents in developing appropriate communication skills at their level of ability; assist residents in the development of thinking skills through programs designed to stimulate mental activity.
  • Develop and monitor plans of improvement for residents who are isolated or withdrawn by visiting with them one-on-one.
  • Responsible for recognizing signs of emotional/physical distress in residents and taking appropriate action as necessary to promote their health and well-being; be cognitive of the need to change communication style adapting it for hearing, visual, or cognitively impaired residents.
  • Participate in and instruct professional development programs with residents, staff, and others.
  • Responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision during activities.
  • Be available for all calls and report life altering events or significant changes related to residents to the Activity Director and/or any other department head directly involved in the needed intervention(s); fill out incidents reports as needed or requested.
  • Contact residents with reminder calls about activities, events, and general items; provide assistance to residents to get to and from activities.
  • Attend staff meetings, in‑service classes, and committee meetings as assigned.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Operate computers programmed with software needed to record, store, and analyze resident information; operate copy/fax/printer machines to send documents and produce documents.
  • Assist with driving residents to unscheduled and scheduled activities and medical runs and on an individual basis as needed in absence of the part-time driver.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Activity Director.
