Job Summary: The Charge Nurse’s primary function is to assess residents’ health problems and needs, conduct assessments, including completion of Functional Capacity Screens and Negotiated Service Agreements for AL and Home Health services, guide general medical attention provided to residents by staff of McCrite Plaza as well as ensure the compliance and maintenance of medical records. In addition, this position provides clinical supervision to Nursing Assistants (CNA and CMA) who provide direct resident care.

Essential Functions / Duties:

  • Giving and reading results of TB skin tests Conduct full assessments on current residents due to falls and other changes in resident’s health; complete new NSA if applicable; conduct follow-up two-week summaries or “supervisory visits”; conduct 60-day full assessments on Home Health and Catered Living residents.
  • Manage medication for those residents needing medication administration or medication set-up for weekly meds; includes reordering medications.
  • Review MARs monthly for accuracy as it pertains to the resident receiving medication administration or medication set-up; correct errors and replace old MARs with new MARs.
  • Conduct interviews and participate in the hiring process for new nursing aids.
  • Follow facility admission, discharge or transfer procedures and communi­cate resident admission, discharge or transfer to other departments, physicians, and ancillary service providers.
  • Attend staff meetings, in‑service classes, and committee meetings as assigned; complete report for facility committees.
  • Listen to resident, family, or physician concerns and initiate corrective action and/or report concerns to RCC.
  • Identify special nursing problems and emergency situations quickly; initiate immediate “life-saving” measures in the absence of a physician.
  • Must be able to work any shift as directed by the Resident Care Coordinator.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Operate computers programmed with software needed to record, store, and analyze resident information; operate copy/fax/printer machines to send documents and produce documents.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Resident Care Coordinator.

Leadership:

  • Participate in staff interviews and selection of candidates for open positions, as needed or directed.
  • Supervise CNA and CMA positions; provide direction regarding expectations, goals, and outcomes desired for these positions as they support the community, residents, and other staff.
  • Supervision of nursing procedures delegated to certified nurse’s aides and medication aides, after determining CNA/CMA is capable of providing delegated nursing task.

Education and Experiences: Prior experience in a similar working environment is preferred, but not a requirement of the position. This position requires an RN (Registered Nurse) or an LPN (licensed practical nurse) in the state of Kansas. For LPNs a certification from KDADS approved Physical Assessment course is required.
