Position Status: Full-time or part-time or PRN.

 

Hours of Operation: The hours will be set by the Charge Nurse and Director of Nursing.

 

Job Summary: The Nursing Assistant’s primary function is to provide basic patient care under the direction of nursing staff.  This position will perform duties such as feed, bathe, dress, groom, change linens, and move residents as directed or needed.

 

Essential Functions / Duties:

  • Provide direct resident care as assigned, conduct resident rounds daily, and perform nursing care as noted below:
    • Answer call lights within designated timeframe.
    • Give care to all residents assigned; make rounds on all residents; check soiled linens and side rails.
    • Change incontinent residents; wash and dry soiled residents.
    • Walk ambulatory residents; this includes taking them to the bathroom.
    • Give tub baths, showers, or bed baths to residents.
    • Complete oral hygiene and toileting.
    • Turn and reposition all bed and chair residents.
    • Place bedpans, linens, washbasins, and soiled linens in proper area.
    • Complete charting on residents.
  • Complete food percentage, intake and output, bowel, and bladder records.
  • Empty and record all urinary drainage units.
  • Review care plans, update and document nurse aide flow sheets with relevant information; document in nursing assistant notes and nurse aide flow sheets the care and treatment provided to the resident and the resident’s response or lack of response to care provided.
  • Initiate corrective action as necessary and/or seek assistance from the Charge Nurse and Director of Nursing; identify special resident problems and report them immediately to the Charge Nurse and Director of Nursing.
  • Participate in resident care conferences and other facility meetings as assigned; participate in the development of an individualized plan of resident care for residents as assigned.
  • Responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision.
  • Participate in facility continuing education programs as required.
  • Follow facility procedures for admission, discharge, and transfer of residents.
  • Listen to resident, family, or physician concerns and initiate corrective action and/or report concerns to Charge Nurse and Director of Nursing.
  • Operate, load, and remove articles into washers and dryers; operate an automated laundry solution dispensing system (mix and add detergents, bleaches, starches, or other solutions as directed); place garments and linens in drum of washer; correctly adjust water temperature and wash cycle for the type of linen being washed, as required; transfer clothes from the washer to the dryer; clean machine filters.
  • Sort and remove articles from washers and dryers; hang, fold, and stack garments and linens; distribute clothes to resident’s rooms without error.
  • Return clean linen to linen closets and mobile racks to ensure adequate supply is available for use at all times; report any garments or linens in ill repair to social services.
  • Must be able to work any shift as directed by the Charge Nurse and Director of Nursing.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Operate computers programmed with software needed to record, store, and analyze resident information; operate copy/fax/printer machines to send documents and produce documents.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Charge Nurse and Director of Nursing.

 

Shift Specific Duties:

  • Day
    • Take residents to the dining room and assist in feeding if assigned.
    • Serve breakfast and/or lunch trays and assist residents that are unable to feed themselves; remove trays from resident rooms and return them to the dishwashing area; ensure that residents are offered nourishment.
    • Roll beds down.
    • Evening
      • Take residents to the dining room and assist in feeding if assigned.
      • Serve evening meal trays and assist residents that are unable to feed themselves; remove trays from resident rooms and return them to the dishwashing area; ensure that residents are offered nourishment.
      • Prepare residents for bed.

Education and Experiences: Prior experience in a similar working environment is preferred, but not a requirement of the position. This position requires a certificate as a Nurse Aide or Medication Technician in the State of Missouri and to be listed as a Nurse Aide or Medication Technician in the Missouri Department of Health and Environment Registry.  Must be CPR certified.

  • Ability to safeguard the privacy of Residents’ health information.
  • Ability to speak and read English and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, residents, and staff.

 

Physical and Other Requirements:  Primarily this position works in residents' rooms as well as other rooms and is subject to lifting, transporting, and supporting residents.  In addition, this position interacts with residents, family members, staff, etc., under all conditions and circumstances and must be constantly alert for resident safety.

 

This position is also subject to exposure to infectious diseases, conditions, etc., including the Hepatitis B viruses.

 

This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.  This position requires the following abilities as essential to for the position:

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, stretch, crawl, crouch, kneel, balance, finger, grasp, push, pull, reach, or walk.
  • Ability to lift people/objects from a lower to higher posi­tion or moving people/objects along a horizontal level but from position to position. This includes lifting and carrying weights in the 35 to 50 pound range.
  • Ability to exert force upon an object to draw, drag or tug objects toward the source of the force in a sustained motion.
